Happy New Year from Grant CurtisJanuary 19, 2007
 Dear friends,
Happy New Year! I hope 2007 finds you healthy, prosperous and ecstatic on May 4th.
I wanted to take a moment and respond to the two main questions that keep appearing in our web log forum. The first one is whether or not there will be a "Spider-Man 4" and the second is confirming, or denying, the existence of four villains in "Spider-Man 3."
As far as whether or not there will be a "Spider-Man 4," I truthfully do not know as it has yet to be discussed. At this juncture in the post production process, in which we are working six and sometimes seven days a week, all of our time is spent making "Spider-Man 3" the best it can possibly be. To temporarily put the brakes on this project and discuss the feasibility of a fourth picture would do an injustice to the current installment. We didn't make "Spider-Man" knowing there would be a "Spider-Man 2," nor did we know at this stage in the "Spider-Man 2" post-production process that there would be a third film. I will say this though, as all of you who are fans of the comic know, we have barely scratched the surface in terms of all the classic Peter Parker/Spider-Man stories that have been spun by the Marvel storytellers over the years.
Now, concerning the number of villains in "Spider-Man 3," there are… three: Sandman, The New Goblin and Venom. I think some of the questions emerged because there are four forces that Peter has to deal with in this picture: Sandman, The New Goblin, Venom and the influence the black suit has on Peter. Each force represents a major obstacle Peter must overcome as he continues on his journey toward becoming a more well-rounded superhero and, more importantly, a better human being.
Hope you are doing well.
Cheers,
Grant Curtis

Thanks for taking the time to clarify the question of 4 villains, Mr. Curtis. I think the struggle for Peter will be an exciting journey, and knowing that the version of the Venom story will be taken from the Ultimate Universe, combined with the old Universe Sandman, and giving us a movie version of Harry's revenge, this will be the THE BEST comic book movie ever created.
#4 | Posted by: Jeff / NYC | January 19, 2007 2:17 PM
Thank you for clarifying some loose ends...can we have a picture of venom for our desktops? I personally think Spiderman movies will never stop being produced...there is always 'a story' to tell if the super hero is worthy, and by all means, spiderman is worthy of many more tales to come! Good job so far, and thank you for staying focused on the spiderman installment you are currently working on. Don't get me wrong, I want as many spiderman movies as possible, but, as you are, stay focused and let this one be the best yet from marvel.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mr. Curtis! I really appreciate your response to all those questions people had and am looking forward to your future blogs.
#6 | Posted by: Kyle D. | January 19, 2007 2:39 PM
Thx for the answers Grant. Now all i want to know is what will Bruce Campbell's cameo in the movie will be and how venom's final look will be, but ill wait for the movie to learn that (don't want to spoil the fun). Regarding a 4th movie, a good way to do that would be ending this 3rd one with venom fighting spider-man and being defeated but not killed, so that he comes back in the 4th one when carnage appears. It would be entertaining to watch the three iconic characters fighting a 4th movie, and it would make you guys loads more money :P.
#7 | Posted by: Rick | January 19, 2007 2:40 PM
Thank you Grant for clearing that up and lets just hope that a 4th Spider-man comes and rocks the theaters like the upcoming 3rd one will do. Can wait to see the 3rd movie and hope to hear from you again soon.
Stay Groovy. (Copyrights of Bruce Campbell....(THE KING))

Hi-Diddly-Ho, Grant!
I was reading what you typed about working on the Post-Production of the movie, and I think you might like this. As a wallpaper, how about Eddie Brock sneering with one of his Daily Bugle issues open in his hands? I think that would be an amazing intro to the Brock character for people who aren't very familiar with Spidey.
They might look at it on a friend's laptop desktop and say, "So, he must be out to get Spidey, eh?"
Suddenly,
Eddie Brock, Jr.

If there is a Spiderman 4 and Black Cat is in it which I really really hope she is I think that Sophia Bush would be a great actress to play her and she has the look.

thanks for the info, Curtis.

SM3 looks like it will be as good as the first 2 but I have one grating concern; 3 villains with a possible 4th? That was one of the main downfalls with the Batman franchise and the last Xmen film, WAAYY too many villians and new characters. Is character development going to suffer in this film due to overloading of characters? I am a huge Venom fan and in the comics his story is so multi-dimensional and the dynamic of Spidey and Venom is spectacular. We would all just hate to see Venom take a backseat to all the other villains
#17 | Posted by: FightClub | January 19, 2007 9:36 PM
Hey! Thanks alot for that update, I've been waiting anxiously, for something new to come up and it's good to hear from you again! I am personally glad that there are only 3 vilians because I think 4 vilains, especially vilains like the ones that are going to be in the movie, would be to much! I think it's better to have less vilains, and more story and quality, then more vilains and less story and quality! I certainly hope there is going to be a 4th Spiderman, but I know for sure this 3rd one is going to be awesome!! Thanks alot!!
#18 | Posted by: Puzzler_man | January 19, 2007 10:02 PM
I am with John Flores, I want some sicky sweet screen savers of Tobey in the hot new suit!!! He is gonna kick some major venom booty!
#19 | Posted by: Marcus D.V. | January 19, 2007 10:28 PM
Just out of curiosity, are you at liberty to discuss the budget in terms of this film? I mean, the first one had a smaller than the second one for sure, and this film is following the trend I'm sure. How big of a project is this for sony as compared to the last Spider-man?
#20 | Posted by: Mr. Excellent | January 19, 2007 10:30 PM
Hi, A lot of little kids love Spiderman - is Spiderman 3 with Venom suitable... ? The concern would be the tongue and teath seen with the comic book version. As long as it is not taken to an extreme it should be okay.
#21 | Posted by: Jim Schilling | January 19, 2007 10:52 PM
I can't wait to see Venom on the big screen!
#22 | Posted by: Ricky | January 20, 2007 12:04 AM
Wow thanks again Grant for this blog. But is Harry gonna be called ''The New Goblin''? Well that sounds great i love the new costume on Harry! And i cant wait to see Spidey battle Sandman and how he handles the symbiote and of course how he fights VENOM!! I cant wait for this movie!! I really hope it would be a 4th movie!
#23 | Posted by: Spideyfanemil | January 20, 2007 12:47 AM

Hey Grant
Wow! Thanks for the update and the site looks fantastic! I'm glad to hear that everything is going well. Personally I think a 4th might be a little too much and might ruin the story (not saying that I don't want more films). I really can't wait until spm3 comes out, i'm thankful for the hard work the cast and crew have put into this franchise which is surely the greatest marvel movie epic ever! Spm3 biggest movie of 07!
Cheers, Rob.

Dear Grant,
I was wondering if Danny Elfman and Chris young are still working together on the score of the film?
I also hope your doing well with the finishing of your book.
By any chance, do you know when it will be coming out in bookstores?
Thank-you and I also know that when Spider-Man 3 comes out in theaters, it's going to be a blockbuster hit! It's going to be awesome!!
#38 | Posted by: Liam | January 20, 2007 5:55 PM
Having already been introuduced to Curt Conners will there be a chance for an appearance by The Lizard in Spiderman4 if it is made. I am also confused will eddie brock become Venom in this movie and have a battle with Spiderman.
#39 | Posted by: Jared Shank | January 20, 2007 7:27 PM
Hey Mr.Curtis. Love the look of the new site. Are some of the orchestral peices on there some of Christopher Young's stuff? Just wondering. I just wanted to say how big of a fan I am of the first 2 movies and how much I am looking foward to May 4th. I'm going to see it 5 times opening week! The next trailer is coming out Feb. 16th right? Please let us know.

well it seems so obvious now.
im really looking forward to this film, and i also found out the other day that theres a 2nd fantastic 4, which looks amazing, so it looks like it'll be a good year for marvel cinema.
and i like to ask, (but i probably won't get an answer) with the venom costume, as he's a monster pretty much how did you go about his mouth movements (when he's speaking, growling etc) will it be CGI or special make-up, because after reading the comics and seeing the cartoon series, i couldnt think of how you would go about it.
anyway, that'd put all my questions about this film to rest, so if you could answer that'd be awesome.
cheers.
#41 | Posted by: rhys | January 20, 2007 8:46 PM
Grant, can't wait.
But PLEASE don't kill venom. He deserves more than just a few scenes. He needs to be kept out there for the next movie. I'm beggin ya, mate.
#42 | Posted by: Matt Ward | January 21, 2007 1:02 AM
Great to hear there will be a Spider-Man 3. I loved the Spider-Man movies, and knew that there had to be a third, because the first two movies we so well done.
As for a Spider-Man 4, I think you should leave it. A Spider-Man trilogy is enough, but if you guys want to make a 4th Movie, you should make a 5th and a 6th so Spider-Man can be a Saga.
Thanks,
JDizzle

Thanks for making time in your busy schedule Grant! I'm sure you're overwhelmed right now as May is quickly approaching. I'm very glad there is no fourth villian, and I think it's great that Sandman is being brought in with the Goblin surrounding a story of Peter's struggle with the suit. I have a feeling we won't be seeing much of Venom in this movie, but enough to begin his story. Which, when I think about it, will be the perfect way to start the Venom vs. Spider-man vs. Carnage era. No matter what though, I'm sure you all will do a spectacular job on this movie as has been proved in the past. I have complete faith in everyone's abilities and decisions concerning this movie!
Best Wishes!

Mr Curtis, there appears to be a mistake on the official website. It says Spidey 3 doesn't come out in New Zealand until May 4th, it lists Australia as being May 3. We share a day with Australia and are a day ahead of the US. So it's suppose to arrive May 3rd here.

I love venom and all the symbiotic suits. I'v read spider-man comics as long as i can remember. And do u think it's possible for carnage to appear in spider-man 4? that would be nice. I personally think everyone loves the black suit spidey, in the comics he's also going back to black this year. and he's pretty sure it's just going to be cloth and string.
#48 | Posted by: carnage_toxin_venom | January 21, 2007 10:39 AM
Hey, I know you said Danny Elfman is back but (I have to ask) will he be providing supplemental score or just themes? It's not clear yet, but -- since it's been posted in the news for over a year that Danny would NOT be doing Spider-man 3 -- I can only imagine Danny would come back to provide themes, i.e. for Venom, Sandman, etc. Is this what's going on? There's a lot of curious people out here about the score and the music seems to be overlooked in a lot of the press.

Mr. Curtis,
If the first two spiderman movies combined grossed a billion dollars , then why not learn a lesson from the lord of the rings movies???? Write 3 good scripts for 3 more spiderman movies and film them back-to-back-to-back!!!
New Line took a chance on 3 movies and loook what happened! It keeps the cast together and their ages younger! Starting in 2008 film for like 12 months and then
we get 3 more movies without the long wait. You have all of 2007 to write the films. :)
spidey 4 Lizard/Black Cat (summer 2009)
spidey 5 Kraven/Mysterio (summer 2010)
Spidey 6 Vulture/ Shocker/Beetle (summer 2011)
You know this would work!!!
#54 | Posted by: Joe | January 22, 2007 12:59 PM

It's interesting how so often when international release dates are given for a film, that Canada is not listed. The listing for North America mentions the US and nothing else. Even if Canada has the same release date, it should be listed. Otherwise it just becomes offensive.

I only need to know one thing, will venom be a major villan in the movie or will be in it for only a few seconds?
#65 | Posted by: Rob | January 23, 2007 6:02 AM
Okay, It's allright. Three villains, containing my personal favorite : venom. It's the ultimate challenge. I've waited years for him to come. And now my dream becomes true.
There's one thing that bothers me. It may be a stupid quistion, but how are you going to fill this all IN TWO HOURS?????? I don't wanna be negative...I love the movies you're making and have made, of course. Spider-man was a great block-buster and two was more greater than the first one. But I think(for the second time:maybe I'm wrong) for two hours the film won't be a succes. It's a fantastic story, It seems to me that this will be the best Spider-Man movie ever.Just...Think about the story, and that two and a half hou, or maybe three will not be for the non-believers. But for the biggest fans. Maybe I'm wrong(for the third time), please answer. I'm really concerned.
Bye
Tom

everything is great!!! I ask you NOT to add a picture of Venom! It will spoil the surprise when on may 4th i will go to the cinema to watch the Greatest movie ever made
#67 | Posted by: DimonM | January 23, 2007 10:26 AM
Thanks for the update.
I'm a little concerned about the addition of so many villains in one film. I already had the impression that this one was going to be the movie the deviated from the comics the furthest, but the need to add more and more bad guys is part of what sent the Batman series into a tailspin towards disaster. I know it's DC vs Marvel and all, but I think the picture always comes off better when there's time to focus on the villains' backstories as well as the hero's.
I'm sure it's been well-written and Stan Lee's signed off on it, but seriously, these franchises are likely to go on for years and many episodes (look at James Bond - 20+) when well-written and well-produced. No need to rush to get everything in at once when it could be drawn out to much better effect.

Hi Grat,
Sup? I would like to ask you if in the spiderman 4 you'll put in the black cat? or do the six Sinisters thing?
#69 | Posted by: Ben Gurevich | January 23, 2007 11:56 AM
Hi Grant. Thanks for the updates. Just as many fans, I am concerned about the relation between number of villains/movie lenght. Also, please, please, PLEASE do not give Venom only a small scene. He deserves a lot more. I agree with some other guys who posted on this blog saying that Spiderman should fight Venom on this 3rd installment and Venom should reappear on the 4th movie (maybe with Carnage too). Please !! Take fans in consideration. I know you will not dissapoint us.
You guys rock! Keep up the good work and thanks for bringing to life my favorite superhero. CAN'T WAIT for May 4th !! Today (Jan 23) we're 100 days away from May 4th. :)

Dear Mr. Grant,
I didn't know if Danny Elfman and Chris Young are composing together on the film's score, or are they composing for different scenes in the film singularly?
Have you decided, on the title of your new book?
Thank-you and good luck with the rest of the post-production!
#71 | Posted by: Liam | January 24, 2007 12:39 AM
I am deeply grateful for your updates. I would like to thank the entire Spider-Man 3 production team and cast, for I know they have done the best that they can do to make this the best Spider-Man movie yet. I say yet because i know that you will eventually make a 4th movie to finalize this 4-movie-run with this cast (perhaps in the future it will be another cast that will continue the legacy). My only question is this: Will this movie be split up into two, 2 and a half hour movies, like they did for Kill Bill, that feature these 3 main villains of Spider man 3 plus additional villains, like Carnage, Mysterio or the Lizard, in the second part of the movie? Because if this is what you guys plan to do, it wouldn't technically be Spider-Man 4, but instead the second part of the third movie. So, in short, this being the last of the trilogy wouldn't be bad, since, in the end, we ended up with 4 great movies instead of 3 :).

Dear Grant,
As many others seem to be wondering, I was wondering if you can clarify Danny Elfman's role on Spider-Man 3? Will his only involvement be that Chris Young will be working with the music Danny composed from the other films, or will Danny actively participate in creating new music for Spider-Man 3? Please let us know! I'm hoping Danny has changed his mind and decided to come back. Thanks Grant!

Thanks for the imformation Grant Curtis. Can I ask a question, will you guys make 6 movies about the Spider-Man movie just like Star Wars: Episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. So, can you guys make more Spider-Man movies - Spider-Man, Spidr-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man 4, Spider-Man 5 & the final chapter of Spider-Man 6? Please make Spider-Man movies untill Spider-Man 6.
Thank you & all the best,

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why the release date of Spider-Man 3 or any movie for that matter happens two days before the North American release date? To my own ignorance, I assumed that the movie would debut in North America (along with other international countries the same day). I understand that it isn't a mathematical thing where it has to be two days, and can vary. I just was curious as to why it doesn't screen in North America first?

hopefully venom will be maybe a major character in the movie , and not just him popping out at the very last second of the movie, and hopefully the design of venom in the movies stays true to the comic book!

It’s a really a case-by-case parental decision. I would suggest taking a good look at the trailers and the content on this site and the content to come to make that decision. Thanks for the question.

i want to ask you two questions about spiderman 3 movie which are as follows:-
Q1. what is the total budget of the movie and how much have been spent upto now ?
Q2. how much shooting have been done or what are the preparaions for the movie now onwards and what about the effects u were working on ?
there only 3 months remaining now for the movie to come in theatres , so best of luck to the whole cast and crew members.
#126 | Posted by: Harshit Tripathi | February 1, 2007 10:29 AM
Thank you for clarifying these two questions Grant.
I just have two questions about production of the movie. The first is: Is the budget really 250 million dollars? Secondly, will you post in a latter blog post about the length of the movie?
#127 | Posted by: Tommy Joe | February 1, 2007 1:57 PM
I have been following this movie blog pretty much since it has opened in July! It has been many months since then and I am still awaiting anxiously for this movie to come out!! I have pretty much been waiting since Spider-Man 2 was done. I was thinking since that movie was so great how good will the next one be and where can this story go from here since Spider-Man 2 left some really good ground for Spider-Man 3. Personally, I was thinking that Harry would become the New Goblin and that would be the main villian with Black Cat on the sidelines since she was not in Spider-Man 2. Peter was also now with Mary Jane so that was another thing I was looking forward to as well. Once I heard that there would be 3 villians I went crazy! Sandman, the New Goblin, and Vemon!! That is just amazing!! I think that Sandman and Vemon will make good villians and that the New Goblin will be more of a tragety for Harry since he was close friends with Peter from high school and he now thinks Peter has killed his father. I know you guys are working your butts off to give us a great movie that everyone can enjoy and I respect and admire that you can put that much work into something. I wish that you guys are having a good production on Spider-Man 3!! Best of luck! Peace.
Mitchell

Hey everyone. I'm so excited for the third movie. I think it will be the best out of all three. I love how they made the black suit come on to Peter when he's asleep, it looks so creepy! I can't wait until May 4!!!

I think its going to be a great Movie. But will there be a Book and Game to go with this awsome movie? If so ,I hope the game comes out for the PS2
#130 | Posted by: Kris Swan | February 3, 2007 2:42 PM
Grant, i want to ask you that why there is so much gap between the two succsecive spiderman films , i mean SM1 was released in 2001 and Sm2 was released in 2004 perhaps while SM3 is coming in 2007. so why so much gap ? u see in Harry Potter movie series 4 movies have been made till now while only two Sm movies have been made so plz answer my coriosity and my some previous questions . i will really appreciate if you do so Mr. Grant Curtis
#131 | Posted by: Harshit Tripathi | February 4, 2007 10:24 AM
VENOM!!! Yes, finally he's here! Hope the movie is really long and that there will be a fourth movie. If anybody wants to see a picture of him now, they can look at the sneak peek to see a split second of him!
Make this movie great!
PS Carnage would ne great in the 4th movie!
Venom's biggest fan!

Dear Grant,
Thank-you for answering my question it really cleared things up!
I was wondering in the next two and a half months if you're going to put up a v-blog about the music for the film?
I just thought it would be a good idea to do it, so we would have just a little taste of what's to come on May 4th.
Thank-you and I hope you think about it!

heh guys just checking out ur web page and u've done a great job of it , i've been a big fan of all the spiderman movies so far and the villains ......wow great job of bringing goblin, dr oc to the screen i waz amazed and dr ocs tentacles and i know how much work u guys must of put into them to bring them to the big screen and i can't wait until number three comes out and hopefully that won't be the last one cause u've got so much more villans to add ...scorpian,lizard,carnage and more and by the way could you send a pitcure of venom to me cause i'm going nuts but if not just some pics from the movie thanks..

And will he looks like he does in the "Ultimate Spider-man" series or something totally different.
